Rehabilitation and integration for adults with a motor impairment (RIMA)

The RIMA program provides specific and/or specialized rehabilitation and adaptation services to Outaouais adults and seniors with motor disabilities related to a spinal cord injury, acute orthopaedic injury, severe burns or traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The services are for adults and seniors with:

  • Significant and persistent motor disabilities that stem from either congenital or trauma/illness-induced neurological or musculoskeletal issues, and who require specialized rehabilitation services. For example: people who suffered a stroke, or with multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s Disease, amputation, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, brain tumour and spinal tumours, etc.
  • Motor disabilities due to a spinal cord injury (SCI), acute orthopedic injury, severe burns or traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The purpose of this program is to help the client develop or regain optimal functional independence in carrying out daily activities and maintain his living environment.

How do I access the services?

A rehabilitation/adaptation service request should be submitted by CISSS Outaouais professionals or physicians and forwarded to the ID-PD-ASD program access point.

Your request will be assessed based on your needs and the intensity of the services required.

Professionals

The services are provided by an interdisciplinary team of professionals from a variety of disciplines who will assess your needs and provide you with the services required based on availability:

  • Special educator
  • Occupational therapist
  • Speech therapist
  • Physiatrist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Psychologist
  • Kinesiologist
  • Social worker
  • Nursing care
  • A respiratory therapist
  • Health and social services assistant.

Home care support services 

  • Social intervention home care support, nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, respiratory therapy, home help services, services for family caregivers. Examples: bio-psycho-social needs assessment, protective supervision, wound care, fall prevention, functional assessment, help with personal hygiene, respite care, etc.
  • Home care support services are provided in the individual’s living environment.
  • Home care support service requests can be made by contacting the ID-PD-ASD program access point.

Rehabilitation services

  • Multidisciplinary assessments of the needs of the client and his relatives with respect to the reason for the referral and the disruption of daily activities.
  • Multidisciplinary individual and group interventions.
  • Interventions to maximize mobility, training on various technical aids, including prostheses and orthoses, and ADL and DA, sensory and perceptual functions, cognitive functions, communication and swallowing.
  • Psychosocial support assessments and interventions for clients and their relatives to help them adjust to the impact of motor impairment, and with social/academic/community integration.
  • Neuropsychological assessments for some clients.
  • Interventions to facilitate the return to active life, including participation in modified physical activities, for some clients.

Main group interventions

  • Clients with fibromyalgia: discuss resources, support, educate and equip clients to better understand their situation as well as manage pain and fatigue to improve their quality of life;
  • Clients with rheumatologic conditions: education and aqua therapy to help them better manage their pain and physical limitations;
  • Energy management group for clients with limited endurance so that they can manage their energy as best as possible.
