Equipment Loan Program

The home health care equipment loan program enables users to borrow items essential to their activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living.

The purpose of this equipment is to:

  • promote home health care
  • improve autonomy and safety
  • help make the work of family caregivers easier

Eligibility

Equipment loaned by the CISSS de l’Outaouais varies according to each person’s situation, and its allocation must comply with current governmental guidelines.

In the event of non-eligibility, you will be directed to the appropriate resources to obtain the necessary equipment available from specialized suppliers, pharmacies, big box stores or online.

Prerequisites

  • Reside in Quebec at the address declared as the place of residence
  • Be in a situation of temporary or permanent loss of autonomy, or be living with a disability that significantly and persistently limits activities of daily living
  • Cooperate with the clinical assessment conducted by a CISSS de l’Outaouais worker to confirm the need for equipment

Ineligible persons

  • Persons covered by government benefits or private insurance
  • Persons residing in long-term care centres (CHSLDs)
  • Persons housed in intermediate resources (IRs)*

*Certain conditions apply depending on the agreements in place.

Equipment provided according to type of client

 

 

Person with disabilities

A person with a recognized disability that results in significant and lasting limitations in activities of daily living (e.g. multiple sclerosis).

Palliative care

A person with a serious illness for which recovery is not possible, if the clinical assessment determines that the need is present.

Loss of autonomy due to aging

An elderly person whose autonomy decreases over time due to aging of the body and chronic diseases (e.g. osteoarthritis, COPD, dementia, cancer, etc.).

Physical health

A person who needs help on a temporary basis (e.g. after surgery, hospitalization, fall or during a period of convalescence, etc.).

  • Bath stool
  • Raised toilet seat
  • Bed grab bar
  • Toilet grab bar
  • Commode
  • Walker, etc.

  • Hospital bed
  • Alternating pressure mattress
  • Lift
  • Floor to ceiling pole, etc.

Your undertaking

  • Pay for repair or replacement costs in the event of loss, theft, fire, breakage or misuse of equipment
  • Return equipment when no longer needed, in the event of death or relocation to a living environment not covered under the program

Borrowing equipment

For users already receiving home care support (SAD):

  • Talk to your care coordinator

They will be able to assess the situation and refer you to the appropriate services or equipment.

Persons not receiving home care support (SAD):

If you are not receiving SAD services and think you need equipment for home health care.

  • Call 811 option 2. A professional will assess your eligibility for the program and refer you to the appropriate resources if necessary.
