This service is for anyone in the Outaouais region with a functional disability and needing a prosthesis, an orthosis, an orthopedic device or a mobility/posture technical aid.

How do I access the services?

Some patients may be eligible for the RAMQ’s Program for Devices That Compensate​ for a Physical Deficiency (ministerial order) or for another program, such as the CSST, SAAQ, Veterans or a personal insurance plan.

Application forms for technical aids must be completed by a professional and accompanied by a prescription from a medical specialist recognized under the RAMQ’s Program for Devices That Compensate​ for a Physical Deficiency at the SRAT (Service régional d’aides techniques), located at 135 St-Raymond Blvd., Gatineau.

Professionals

Interventions are carried out by the following professionals:

• Occupational therapists
• Orthotics and prosthetics technicians
• Orthotics and prosthetics mechanics
• Physiatrist

These interventions are performed only as-needed, and include the assessment, procuring, repair, adjustment and replacement of technical aids. SRAT is a public laboratory recognized by the RAMQ for the provision of prostheses, orthoses and mobility/posture technical aids. It also manages the ministerial Programme d’attribution de chaussures orthétiques et de l’appareillage in the Outaouais.

Emergency help desk

This service is available to clients in the Hull, Gatineau, Aylmer, Buckingham, Masson-Angers, Cantley, Chelsea and Luskville sectors. It is staffed by SRAT mechanics who assist clients with an electric wheelchair, or with a three- or four-wheeled scooter that breaks down on a road, at home, at work, or at a school due to a mechanical or electronic problem.

The service is available from 8 AM to 9 PM, 7 days a week, including holidays.
