Hospital geriatric units

Geriatric hospital units provide rehabilitation services and post-acute or complex care services by medical referral for seniors who live at home. These units are part of a continuum of services that aim to facilitate home support, by investing in the improvement of the individual’s functional independence.

This program is intended for seniors experiencing a loss of independence who require rehabilitation services in an environment that is adapted to their needs and for people who are unable to receive rehabilitation services on an outpatient basis. These people must have a good prognosis for home support.

Individuals may be admitted to a hospital geriatric unit for up to 30 days.
