General surgery
General surgery specializes in the investigation and treatment of pathologies requiring surgery. Outpatient clinics offer consultation and follow-up. This may be follow-up of tests requiring surgery, pre- and post-surgery care, or pre-and post-hospitalization care for general surgery and biopsies.
Follow-up wound care is provided at local community service centres (CLSCs).
How do I access the services?
The service is intended for any person who needs, or has undergone, general surgery (cancer pathologies, diseases of the digestive tract, appendicitis, etc.)
The request for consultation with a surgeon is sent directly by the attending or emergency physician. The surgeon forwards the request to the booking department.
What to expect?
- Making appointments: the booking department will call you to schedule your appointment.
- On the day of the appointment, sign in at the department with the secretary.
- A nurse will do a short assessment and provide basic care.
- Tests and minor surgery as necessary.
- Consultation, surgery and follow-up with the surgeon.
- Surgeon’s decision on completion of follow-up.
Please note that any appointment with the surgeon could be delayed due to emergencies that may arise.
