Refugees and asylum seekers

A health and wellness assessment service is offered to newcomers who are refugees or seeking asylum. The assessment service helps to identify their needs, after which the individuals are referred to the appropriate services if necessary.

Although the service is offered in French, interpretation services are available to all refugees and asylum seekers.

How do I access the service?

The service follows up on a commitment by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion, which notifies us of the arrival of refugees and asylum seekers.

The team carries out a complete needs assessment:

  • Medical examination (vital signs, symptoms, past medical history, chronic diseases diagnosed, current medications, vaccination initiation according to the Québec Immunisation Program, etc.) within 10 days of a refugee’s arrival.
  • Needs assessment by a psychosocial worker within 10 days of a refugee’s arrival.
  • Physical health assessment (screening tests and vaccinations to be administered) within 30 days of a refugee’s arrival.
  • Wellness assessment within 30 days of a refugee’s arrival.
