Perinatal bereavement

What is perinatal bereavement?

Perinatal death occurs when a baby dies during the mother’s pregnancy, during birth, or in its first year of life. Perinatal bereavement refers to the parents’ bereavement when their baby dies.

The degree of pain here is not a function of the number of weeks of pregnancy or how long the baby lived; rather, it is measured in terms of the dreams the parents had, and their feeling that they were already parents.
